As folk who love the earth, there can be a lot of heartache in knowing how much our planet is being impacted by human-driven climate change. The damage we are doing can make us feel angry and helpless.
I wanted to create a way in which the We Are Stardust community can come together to share our love for the earth and process the grief we feel in a constructive way - and the wild journalling community projects were born.
In these responsive projects or inquiries members of my course, Your Wild Journal, are invited use our wild journalling skills to make a piece of art that reflect our love for nature which are then collated into a collective digital artwork.
This year, in honour of the UK's National Tree Week 2025 which runs from 22-30 November I invited course members to respond make marks on the page with their favourite local tree which I have put together to create a community piece of wild journalling celebrating our local trees.
'Among The Trees' is the result of this collaborative project with members from across the globe participating.
Among the trees
A collective project by members of the course, Your Wild Journal.
'Among The Trees' references Mary Oliver's beautiful poem:
WHEN I AM AMONG THE TREES
by Mary Oliver
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”
