Taxanes stop cells from dividing, and therefore cancers from growing, by disrupting the function of the microtubules crucial for cell division. Yew tree needles are collected between May and October, when the taxanes are most concentrated, to make the chemotherapy drug docetaxel. Docetaxel is usually taken after surgery to get rid of the last few cancer cells.”
